I have been in the social work field for nearly 15 years, serving on the front lines of our community. I have also been actively involved in local organizations, to include the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the American Red Cross, We are Women Colorado, Indivisible, and the Colorado Springs Council for Justice. Additionally, I've been involved politically for over 10 years, and the last 8 years have been tracking legislation and educating individuals on how to get involved at a grassroots level. I am running because we have not been living up to our promise of, "justice for all."

As a social worker, I know exactly where the systems work and where they fail. I am running to fight for a more just society, and a government that works for the people. I envision a government that provides equitable and quality education to all students, regardless of their zip code, a system that does not force people to choose between paying for their medications or paying rent, environmental regulations that hold polluters accountable and just policies to transition to renewable resources.

Please join me in the fight for a more just system, we can and must do better.
  • I will work tirelessly to restore school funding to pre-recession levels and ensure that our students and teachers have the resources they need for a quality education.
  • We must take an offensive instead of a defensive stance against climate change. I will work to ensure that polluters are held accountable, that we are investing in clean and renewable energy, and that we are practicing responsible stewardship over our public lands.
  • Health care reform is crucial, and this has been amplified by COVID-19. We must address the sky-rocketing costs and work to ensure that everyone has access to affordable care.
While environmental protections, quality education, and health care reform are some of my top priorities, my overall focus is in ensuring that our government is working for the people. As we have seen with the challenges in people receiving unemployment benefits, far too often the systems are not able to meet the needs of the people they are meant to serve. This often creates barriers for individuals and families who are working to become self-sustainable again, leading to a cycle of poverty that becomes more and more difficult to break. By investing in our community through evidence-based programs, we can build a more just an equitable society that provides for upward mobility and supports a strong middle-class.
I believe the most important characteristics are a desire to serve their community, the willingness to listen to others and to admit when they don't know something, and a strong moral compass.

While I am proud of my experience and the work I have done in my community, I am prouder of my ethics. I am the only candidate in my race that has accepted voluntary spending limits, a choice I made because of my values. I also have an established record of service to the community, both as a social worker and through volunteer work.
Throughout my life, I have looked to the "The Starfish Story" by Loren Eiseley as a reminder of the power of our actions. I have celebrated each time my clients have a success and I have mourned each of their disappointments. I believe the most effective way I can continue to serve my community is by helping to craft legislation and fighting in our state legislature for our shared values.

I would like my legacy to be that of a person committed to serving their community and who fought tirelessly to create a more just and equitable society for all.
The first historical event I remember is the invasion of Iraq during the first Gulf War. I was 7 years old at the time and remember going into the living room where my parents were watching the news and seeing the explosions on the screen. I do recall feeling sad, scared, and confused about what I was witnessing and having a deep desire to stop it.
My first job was working at Panino's, a locally Italian restaurant. I believe I worked there for about 6 months.
I don't believe that it's necessary for legislators to have previous experience in an elected office, but I do think it's beneficial for them to have an understanding of how the legislative process works, a historical understanding of the legislation that has been introduced in recent years, and previous political involvement.

While I have not held public office before, I have been tracking legislation and educating others on how to get involved at a grassroots level for the past 8 years. I have also had the opportunity to work with legislators to ensure their bills meet the needs of the community and even had the honor of watching a bill that I had suggested by passed with unanimous consent.
The TABOR and Gallagher amendments have significantly limited our states ability to collect appropriate taxes while they have been in place, and the cap on budget increases year over year is going to have significant consequences as we work to recover from the current economic crisis. The ability to maintain services at previous levels is going to be a significant challenge.

Additionally, Colorado has already seen the consequences of climate change as studies have shown that vegetation that was previously able to thrive in our burn scars is no longer able to grow in those areas. We are also seeing an increase in invasive species as our winters don't get as cold, and our fire seasons are extending far longer than they did in the past.

Both of these issues must be addressed in order for us to maintain our quality of life in the beautiful state we call home.
I would like to be a part of the House Public Health and Human Services Committee, the Judiciary Committee, the Energy and Environment Committee, and the Education Committee. I believe my experience can be best put to use on the House Public Health and Human Services Committee and on the Judiciary Committee, but I am also passionate about protecting our environment and ensuring that every student has equitable access to a quality education.
