Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am an Idaho certified teacher. I'm married and the mother of 5 children. I am regularly in the West Ada schools as a volunteer and substitute teacher. I am running for Zone 3 to be an active representative of the schools and families I spend so much time with. I've spent the last 9 years working in local schools; I have strong, professional experience to bring to the board. I understand curriculum and how the schools operate on a daily basis. My children will be in West Ada schools for the next 13 years, so I have a personal interest in strengthening relationships across the district.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• Everyone Is Welcome Here A poster that welcomes all students in a public school classroom is not political and it is inappropriate to tell children their skin color is political.
• Teachers in West Ada are paid less than Boise and new teacher retention is an issue. West Ada should focus on providing incentives for new hires and provide high benefits to retain teachers.
• School Trustees are representatives for their zone. I will meet with all the schools in Zone 3 every year and listen to actual concerns of the community. This is a nonpartisan position and a Trustee should be listening to the community instead of national headlines.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about early literacy. I am supportive of the district's full day Kindergarten policy. Full time kindergarten shows higher literacy levels and is supported by parents and teachers.

I support the West Ada cell phone policy to keep devices away from students during the school day. Students are able to reduce their anxiety levels and develop real friendships in the classrooms, lunchroom, and halls.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Trustees should visit the schools in their zone every year. Attending board meetings is the bare minimum of a Trustee's responsibilities.

What is your favorite book? Why?

I love the themes that challenge light and dark and good vs evil.

What is the primary job of a school board member in your view?

A school board member should listen to all the concerns from the families, teachers, and Principals in their zone about district policies.

All residents of Zone 3

How would you support the diverse needs of your district’s students, faculty, staff, and community?

I will support the community by attending all the Parent-Teacher-Organizations and Parent-Teacher-Student-Association meetings I am invited to.

How will you build relationships with members of the broader community? Which groups, organizations, stakeholders will you specifically target?

I will support the community by attending all the Parent-Teacher-Organizations and Parent-Teacher-Student-Association meetings I am invited to.

What constitutes good teaching? How will you measure this? How will you support advanced teaching approaches?

The district should rely on tested, research-based curriculum.

What strategies or plans would you advance to ensure the schools are properly funded?

Districts should be properly funded by the state legislature. I will call on state representatives to fulfill their constitutional duties to the schools.

Describe your ideal learning environment for students.

The ideal learning environment for a student is a welcoming environment.

What will you do to build a relationship with parents in the district?

I will support the community by attending all the Parent-Teacher-Organizations and Parent-Teacher-Student-Association meetings I am invited to.

What are your preferred strategies for faculty, staff, and administration recruitment?

Teaching is a profession for highly qualified individuals. Teachers should be paid a competitive salary and offered strong medical benefits.
