Mom, County Girl and Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  • Aroostook County has always been known as a great place to raise a family. It is important that our community continue to provide opportunities and resources that are family oriented. Options for quality childcare are vital for our economic success. Competitive schools improve the potential of our towns. Investing in the care and education of our children is an investment in our future. Communities and families grow in homes. We have to increase supply of all kinds of housing to lower market prices and improve access and affordability.
  • I believe in government by the people, for the people and of the people. “Our budgets are a moral document”. We need to change where our funding goes to match what we say our priorities are. This starts with engaging with constituencies to understand their values and how to make their lives easier.
  • Rural Maine has been disproportionately affected by the substance use epidemic and lack of mental health services. We need to increase access, increase the workforce, and increase services for all areas of need. Including stakeholders in regulation discussions and insurance parity with physical health care are first steps in this process
I have spent the last four years working as boots on the ground in this mental health catastrophe, struggling through the childcare crisis and grappling with our economy. I have always had an interest in politics and government, but at this time in my life it has become more important to stand up for what is right and make a difference for my community and our future. The pillars of social work include advocacy, service and social justice. I hold these values close and they motivate me to run for office, to be a voice for those who may not have a voice, and stand for those who are unable to stand up.
Integrity and competence are important principles for elected officials as voters can only make decisions based on what information is presented to them. Understanding the issues and listening to constituents are important tasks for policy makers.
My work ethic is a quality I am proud of and has allowed me to experience many wonderful experiences through out my life, from international travel to physically helping build my home. Growing up in the County with two hardworking parents instilled the belief that success takes work and faith. My education and training as a social worker developed my skills in advocacy, active listening and empathy which are all important when serving as a representative. Working in broken systems has increased my level of resourcefulness, resiliency and sensibleness that will bode well in holding office.
Elected officials have an obligation to be the voice for their communities. Engaging with and listening to community members should be the top priority to be able to effectively advocate on their behalf.
By serving my community, I hope to encourage more folks to get involved and step up where they can to make the changes in society they hope to see. I hope to increase engagement and community building.
Our aging population, housing crisis, continued effects of substance use disorders and workforce challenges
Knowledge of the processes and nuances is beneficial when holding an office, however, elected positions should be accessible for any person who wants to be involved and is willing to invest in their community and put in the effort to learn how to serve.
Effecting change can only happen when policy makers work together to do what is best for their communities
