Melina Abdullah

Abdullah is an academic and author. She is a professor of Pan-African studies at California State University, Los Angeles.[1] From 2014 to 2018, Abdullah served on the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission.[2]
Biography
Abdullah grew up in Oakland, California. She received a bachelor's degree in African American studies from Howard University, and a master's degree and Ph.D. in political science from the University of Southern California.[1]
Abdullah is a professor and former chair of the Pan-African studies department at California State University, Los Angeles. From 2014 to 2018, Abdullah served as a member of the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission.
Abdullah co-founded the Los Angeles chapter of Black Lives Matter.[3] She is also a co-host for a weekly radio program called Beautiful Struggle, and has served on the boards of the Black Community, Clergy and Labor Alliance (BCCLA), California Faculty Association-Los Angeles, Los Angeles African American Women’s Public Policy Institute, Los Angeles Community Action Network (LA-CAN), National Association for Ethnic Studies, Reverence-Wellness Salon, and Strategic Concepts in Organizing and Policy Education (SCOPE).[1]
