Melissa C. Jackson (New York)
Melissa C. Jackson is a judge for the New York City Criminal Court of New York County, New York. She was appointed to the court in 2003 and has served as the supervising judge of the New York County Criminal Court since 2008.[1]
On October 22, 2014, Jackson was appointed the administrative judge of the New York City Criminal Courts.[2]
Education
Jackson received her B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974 and her J.D. degree from the Fordham University Law School in 1981.[1]
Career
From 1981 until her judicial appointment in 2003, Jackson served as a deputy district attorney for Kings County, New York.[1]
Noteworthy cases
IMF Chief denied bail
Jackson presided over the arraignment of head of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, in May 2011. Strauss-Kahn has been accused of the attempted rape of a hotel maid in New York City. Though Strauss-Kahn offered one million dollars in bail and the surrender of his travel documents, Jackson declared him "a flight risk." He will remain in prison in the U.S. until his hearing.[3]
