Melissa K. Copeland is an associate judge on the 8th Judicial Circuit for Baltimore City in Maryland. She was appointed to the court by Governor Martin O'Malley on February 24, 2014, and assumed office on March 13, 2014.[1][2] She was re-elected to the 8th Judicial Circuit in 2014, winning a new term that expires on December 31, 2029.[3][4]

Copeland previously served as a district court judge on the First District Court from 2010 to 2014, an office to which she had also been appointed by Governor Martin O'Malley.[5]

Copeland ran for re-election to the 8th Judicial Circuit.
Primary: She was successful in the Democratic primary on June 24, 2014, receiving 15.1 percent of the vote. She competed against Page Croyder and judges Jeffrey M. Geller, Philip Senan Jackson, Alfred Nance, Christopher L. Panos, Melissa Marie Phinn, and Julie Rubin. Copeland cross-filed as a Republican and won in that primary as well, receiving 13.5% of the vote. Primary candidates competed for 7 seats. 
General: She was unopposed in the general election on November 4, 2014. Seven seats were up for election. [4][6][7] 

Education

Copeland received her undergraduate degree in sociology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 1991 and her J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1998.[2]
