Madrigal ran for election to the Nueces County Court at Law.
Primary: She was successful in the Democratic primary on March 4, 2014, receiving 35 percent of the vote. She competed against Jackie Chapa and Martha Huerta Quintanilla.
Runoff: Because no candidate received more than 50% of the vote, Madrigal faced Quintanilla in a runoff election on May 27, 2014. She won, earning 55% of the votes cast.
General: She was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 48.9 percent of the vote. She competed against Timothy Jordan McCoy.

Education
Madrigal earned a B.S. from Texas A&M University, going on to receive her J.D. from the South Texas College of Law in 1998.[3][4]
Career
In addition to serving as a magistrate judge in Nueces County, Madrigal has worked as an attorney with her firm, the Law Office of Melissa K. Madrigal.[4]
