Melissa Moore Murphy is a judge of the Kentucky 22nd District Court 4th Division. She assumed office on April 24, 2020. Her current term ends on January 4, 2027.
Moore Murphy ran for re-election for judge of the Kentucky 22nd District Court 4th Division. She won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Murphy was appointed to the court on April 15, 2020, by Gov. Andy Beshear to replace judge Julie Muth Goodman.
Biography
Melissa Moore Murphy was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and lives in Lexington, Kentucky. She graduated from Atherton High School in 1994. She earned a B.A. in political science and history from the University of Kentucky in 1998 and a J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2001. Murphy's career experience includes working as an assistant Fayette County Commonwealth's attorney and as a special assistant U.S. attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office.[1]

The judges of the Kentucky District Courts are elected in nonpartisan elections. They serve four-year terms and must run for re-election if they wish to serve again.[2][3]
Qualifications
To serve on this court, a judge must be:[2]
- a U.S. citizen;
- a resident of the represented district for at least two years; and
- licensed to practice law for at least two years.
