Mogen earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also holds a J.D. from Western Michigan University. Mogen has worked as an attorney in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.[1]

Wisconsin held local judicial elections in 2017. Forty-eight circuit court seats were up for election on April 4, 2017. Three seats required primaries on February 21, 2017, with the top two vote recipients for each seat advancing to the April 4 general election. Thirty-seven seats up for election in 2017 were unopposed.[2] Melissia Mogen defeated David Grindell in the general election for the Burnett County Circuit Court.
