Melvin Gelade is a senior judge on the Vicinage 8 Superior Court in New Jersey.[1] He retired in April 2013, but was recalled to judicial service in August 2013 for a two-year term as a senior judge.[2] He was recalled again in 2015.[3]

Education

Gelade earned both his B.A. and J.D. from Rutgers University.[4]

Career

Gelade began his career as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board. He worked for a private firm in 1970s, and then as director of the New Jersey Office of Employee Relations. From 1991 to 1994, Gelade was a partner at Apruzzese, McDermott, Mastro & Murphy. In late 1996, he was nominated by former Governor Whitman to be labor commissioner.[5] He then served as judge until his retirement in April 2013, when he joined Schwartz Simon Edelstein & Celso as counsel to the firm, concentrated in Mediation/Arbitration and Employment/Labor Law.[6] He was recalled as a Superior Court judge in September 2013.
