Menahan running unopposed for 1st Judicial District
March 30, 2012
Montana: Lewis and Clark Deputy County Attorney, Mike Menahan, is running unopposed for the Montana 1st Judicial District Court. Current justice Dorothy McCarter has decided to retire at the end of her term this year and will not be running for re-election to the court.[1]
The fact that the race remains uncontested is surprising for many locals. Montana Supreme Court Chief Justice Mike McGrath said, “I really cannot think of a time when there was an open seat that was uncontested in Helena. I do think it’s a recognition of Mike’s legal skills and abilities, plus his involvement in the community.” A race in neighboring Flathead County has three candidates racing for one seat and two for another. In Cascade and Park Counties there are two openings with four candidates running for each.[1]
Background
Menahan has 17 years of experience working as the Lewis and Clark Deputy County Attorney.[2] He graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in political science and from the University of Montana School of Law with a J.D.[3]
