Campaign themes

2015

Elizalde's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]

Equitable Access to Social Services

  • Excerpt: "There were 2,813 people counted sleeping outside after the shelters were full. A “Right to Shelter Ordinance” would guide the prioritization of city resources to ensure that no adult or child sleeps outside. Our city has too high a tolerance for homelessness, as long as we accept this as our reality we will continue to see a perpetuation and growth in homelessness."

Affordable Housing and Rent Stabilization

  • Excerpt: "In order to really end homelessness and increase the preservation of existing affordable housing. We need to adjust the MFTE program to target high needs residents. We can accomplish this by targeting individuals and families making 50% or lower on the area median income (AMI). These are the people in our city most in need of rent stability in order to improve their living conditions or retire without risking homelessness."

Public Safety

  • Excerpt: "Increase spending on preventative and supportive service. The mayor wants to bring in more officer for the city. I believe that bring in those new officers will only be effective in improving public safety if they are doing the kind of policing that increases community health. Revitalize the Community Police model and expanding the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program are ways to increase health and safety in the Aurora neighborhoods as well as throughout district 5 and the whole city."
