Michael A. Martinez was a judge for the Colorado 2nd Judicial District in Colorado. He was appointed to the court in 2000, officially joining on September 9th, 2000. He retired from the court on September 9th, 2022.

He was appointed to the office in September 2000 by Gov. Bill Owens (R). Martinez won retention to a full six-year term in 2010. He won retention again in the general election on November 8, 2016.

Prior to his appointment, Martinez was a magistrate for the 17th Judicial District.

Biography

Martinez received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado and his J.D. degree from the University of Denver College of Law. He was a trial lawyer in both the public and private practice. He has worked with the Denver firm of Mann and Shappell, served as both an associate general counsel for the Regional Transportation District, and was an assistant attorney for the City of Denver.[1]
