Michael Ackerman (Kentucky)
Michael Ackerman was a 2012 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 5th Congressional District of Kentucky. Ackerman was defeated by Kenneth Stepp in the Democratic primary on May 22, 2012.[1]
Biography
He has a bachelor's in physics and a J.D. from Ohio State University in Cincinnati.[2]
Career
- One year of graduate study at Stanford University's Department of Applied Physics in Stanford, California[2]
- Banking operations for Fifth-Third Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio[2]
- 2007: Opened private practice in Morehead, Kentucky[2]
Elections
2012
Ackerman ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Kentucky's 5th District. Ackerman sought the nomination on the Democratic ticket.[3] Ackerman was defeated by Kenneth Stepp in the Democratic primary.[4] Incumbent Hal Rogers ran unopposed in the Republican primary. Candidates wishing to run were initially required to file by the signature filing deadline of January 31, 2012. However because the legislature was unable to complete new redistricting maps on time, the deadline was pushed back one week.[5] The new deadline was February 7.[6] The primary elections were held on May 22, 2012.[7]
