Michael Alexander Duran represents Trustee Area 5 on the Desert Sands Unified School District Board of Education in California. He was first elected to the board on November 7, 2006.[1]

Duran ran unopposed and won re-election by default in the general election on November 4, 2014.[2]

Duran lives in La Quinta, California and works as a counselor in the Palm Springs Unified School District. He has previously worked as a teacher, counselor, swim coach and water polo coach for the Desert Sands Unified School District. Duran earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California and his master's degree from Azusa Pacific University. His three daughters all attend schools in the Desert Sands Unified School District.[1]

Two seats on the Desert Sands Unified School District Board of Education were up for general election on November 4, 2014. In Trustee Area 2, incumbent Donald B. Griffith faced challenger Clark McCartney and won re-election. Trustee Area 5 incumbent Michael Alexander Duran ran unopposed and won re-election by default.

This election was the first time the Desert Sands Unified School District elected members from trustee areas. Prior to this election, board of education members were elected at-large.

This election was canceled due to lack of opposition. Trustee Area 5 incumbent Michael Alexander Duran won re-election by default.

Funding

Duran filed Form 470 with the Riverside County Registrar of Voters, indicating he did not intend to raise or spend more than $1,000 for his 2014 campaign. Because of this, Duran did not have to file any additional campaign finance reports.[3]
