An effort to recall Michael Alger from his position on the West Valley Fire District Board did not go to a vote in 2022. Recall supporters did not submit any signatures by the deadline.[1]

The recall effort began in October 2021.[2] To get the recall on the ballot, supporters would have had to file 312 signatures by January 12, 2022.[3]

Alger's term was scheduled to expire on June 30, 2023.[4]

Recall supporters

The recall petition included the following reasons for recall:[2]

1-When presented with a finance report at a board meeting Director Alger's response was "numbers don't mean diddly squat". This shows lack of respect for the finance committee's work and no interest in understanding how the report could help him perform his fiduciary responsibilities. Now WVFD is broke and had to borrow money for the first time ever. His lack of knowledge and attitude contributed greatly to WVFD financial and staffing crisis. Most days we have no service now.

2-Despite overwhelming evidence and public support for a 190 agreement with Sheridan Director Alger insists on continuing a 190 agreement with SWP FD which has no benefit for WVFD, instead has cost us service and financial stability.

3-0ur union line staff did a vote of no confidence for Chief Fred Hertel. Instead of supporting the staff Director Alger ignored their vote, even though in the past he was all about supporting the line staff.

4-ln an email to me he stated he was only a Board member when in a meeting. Being a public official involves more than just attending Board meetings. it's being available to the public to inform, educate, and most importantly hear their concerns and thoughts.[5]
