Michael P. Barnes was a judge on the Indiana Court of Appeals, representing the Third District. He was appointed to the court by former Governor Frank O'Bannon (D) on May 22, 2000. He was retained to the court in 2002 and 2012.

Barnes served as Third District presiding judge from 2009 to 2011. He retired on June 1, 2018.[1][2][3] Barnes died on May 22, 2020.[4]

Education

Barnes earned his B.A. in history from St. Ambrose College in 1970 and his J.D. from Notre Dame Law School in 1973.[1]

Career

From 1973 to 1978, Barnes served as a deputy prosecuting attorney and worked as an attorney in private practice in South Bend, Indiana. In 1978 he was elected St. Joseph County Prosecuting Attorney. Re-elected five times, he served as prosecuting attorney for 20 years.[1]
