MICHAEL ON THE ISSUES

Keeping Stockton Neighborhoods Safe

Public safety will always be my top priority. Over the last four years, our city has established a new fire truck company to improve emergency response times, reopened a closed fire station to expand neighborhood coverage, and replaced much of the Fire Department’s aging equipment so first responders have the tools they need.

I supported renewing Measure A to retain police officers and maintain strong public safety staffing. As Chair of the Community Improvement and Crime Prevention Committee, I have worked to strengthen neighborhood patrols while supporting police and firefighters.

Addressing Homelessness with Compassion and Accountability

Like many California cities, Stockton faces a serious homelessness crisis. The city must respond with both compassion and accountability—offering support services for those in need while protecting public safety and ensuring clean, livable neighborhoods.

I have looked to advance real solutions, including the Zeiter Navigation Center and the Pathways Modular Unit Community. These programs provide safe shelter, access to mental health and substance use support, job placement assistance, and connections to transitional and permanent housing for people experiencing homelessness.

I continue to pursue partnerships with San Joaquin County, nonprofits, and faith-based groups for targeted programs addressing addiction, mental health, and job instability, while ensuring enforcement of laws that protect neighborhoods and public spaces.

Supporting Local Jobs and a Strong Economy

As a longtime Stockton business owner, I know a strong local economy helps families thrive by providing stable jobs, increased opportunities, and community growth. My experience offers practical insight into attracting investment, supporting entrepreneurs, and promoting family-wage jobs.

Stockton should be proactive and business-friendly—assisting businesses in creating jobs, encouraging economic development for community prosperity, and working with schools and workforce partners to help residents gain the skills needed for future employment opportunities.

By investing in infrastructure, supporting local employers, and building strong labor-industry partnerships, I am committed to creating more employment opportunities and a stronger economy for Stockton families.

Enhancing Stockton's Quality of Life

Strong neighborhoods create a better Stockton. That’s why we have prioritized improvements to enhance the lives of Stockton families.

I secured funding for new pickleball courts at Grupe Park, advocated for inclusive playground equipment at Sandman Park, upgrades at Swenson Park, advanced the Five-Mile Creek cleanup, and supported street resurfacing on Ben Holt Drive and Hammer Lane.

Quality of life means safe parks for children, well-maintained streets, and vibrant spaces that encourage connection. As a lifelong Stocktonian raising my family here, I am committed to strengthening neighborhoods by focusing on safety, community, and pride, ensuring Stockton is a city families can be proud to call home.

  • Prioritize Public Safety to ensure Stockton Families are protected.
  • Tackle Stockton’s homeless crisis while cleaning up our streets.
  • Lighten local businesses’ regulatory and financial burden to create new jobs
1. Homelessness: This are no easy answers to this difficult and complex issue, but we need to do what we can to get the homeless the help they need and to get them off the streets. The city needs to partner and work with the county as well as local non-profit organizations to get services to those who have mental health issues and/or drug addiction. We also need to create more beds for the homeless so that they can be removed from areas that they should not be camping in such as the freeway offramps. I also think that there needs to be more accountability for the conduct of the homeless and that crime should be punished, regardless of one’s housing status. I have never understood why it seems okay for people to steal shopping carts.

2. Public Safety: One of the main purposes of city government is to protect its citizens and to help them in times of emergency. I think it is vitally important that we support those brave men and women that serve our community every day, keeping us safe. We need to do everything we can to give our police and fire departments the resources they need to do their jobs. We also need to do what we can to retain our people and keep them from getting snapped up by departments in other cities.

3. Economic Development: Stockton needs to be a city that is business friendly. As we emerge from the pandemic, economic development needs to be a high priority. Our city is situated with many logistical advantages with major roadways, railways and o
