I’m the oldest son of the oldest son in a family of seven siblings, two now deceased. I grew up in a Buffalo, New York suburb and attended Catholic schools through high school. I came to believe in the value of public service very young and volunteered for Jack Kemp’s first congressional campaign. I married young, had three children young, and have (nearly) six grandchildren with Chautauqua County Legislator Susan Parker. I was a county legislator in my 30’s. I graduated law school when I was nearly 40. I practiced law privately for 10 years; and worked primarily with children and families. I was appointed a Family Court Magistrate where I worked for ten years. I served on a local school board for 12 years and believe a quality public education is the greatest gift our community can provide our children. I now wish to represent the residents of the 150th Assembly District and help deliver on our ideal that every person has the equal right to attain:

· a good public education; · affordable, accessible health care; · a business dream or life-sustaining employment; · suitable housing; and

· a life in a safe, sustainable, inclusive community.
  • Mike Bobseine really cares about me and my family and our community.
  • No one will work harder than Mike Bobseine to try to solve our problems and involve everyone and their concerns in that process if they wish to participate and share the work.
  • Mike Bobseine does not fear monger. Mike believes that we can solve our problems with courage, consensus, and commitment.
Ensuring good quality public education beginning at a young age; and building a strong, sustainable economy now and for the future of the residents of the 150th Assembly District.
Per above -- Shirley Chisholm. Why? Hon. Chisholm was “Unbought and Unbossed”! You can look it up!
Samuel G. Freedman’s “Into the Bright Sunshine: Young Hubert Humphrey and the Fight for Civil Rights.”
Diligence and tenacity when trying to solve problems that a constituent or group of constituents consider vital. A willingness to “keep trying” or “try a different way” when it appears there is no further way to resolve an issue. Being willing and able to compromise to get some measure of progress (but while also considering how you might get further compromise and progress down the road); and be honest and deal fairly with constituents, colleagues, and oneself.
I genuinely like people and appreciate our many human foibles; I enjoy working hard to help people and solve problems; and I believe that, working together, I can help make the lives of the residents of our District better.
Work hard to fairly and fully represent the residents of the District;

Provide outstanding constituent services, I.e., the best services of any office in the Assembly (or Senate); and
Deliver on the “Envision 150 Ideal” that every person has the equal right to attain:
· a good public education;
· affordable, accessible health care;
· a business dream or life-sustaining employment;
· suitable housing; and

· a life in a safe, sustainable, inclusive community.
A big smile on our grandkids’ faces every time they might think of and remember “Baga” (that’s me).
The assassination of President John F. Kennedy. I was 6 years old and in first grade.
I washed windows at a Jewelry store every Saturday for four years beginning when I was eleven.
The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin. I came to this book late (as in post George Floyd). This book spoke to so much of my lifetime of ignorance as a privileged white male. It helped me to consider the huge advantages I have had vis-a-vis Blacks, People of Color, Indigenous Peoples, women — really, so much of our society — and how we might help bring change and social justice.
Dog Days are Over by Florence + The Machine
Coming to grips with our mortality. I really regret that we have to die and leave behind the wonders of living, including so many good friends and our family.
Leadership from the Governor's Office; fair dealing with Legislators; and openness to legislative initiatives and partnering to help Assembly Districts, especially the 150th.
Fiscal Management, but especially and including modernizing and improving public education from early childhood through community colleges and public colleges and universities.
I honestly cannot imagine trying to be an effective state legislator without some working and practical knowledge and experience with politics and government. Most important is practical knowledge and experience with public budgeting.
An effective legislator is a person who commits to building relationships in order to accomplish what is in the best interests of their constituents. While some might think and treat their relationships as purely transactional, I believe the truly effective legislator operates at a higher level wherein relationships are more than transactional, but include empathy, honesty, trust building, and loyalty.
Shirley Chisholm. Why? Hon. Chisholm was “Unbought and Unbossed”! You can look it up!
Yes; a young woman worked especially hard to acquire a law degree and provide legal representation to her underserved community. She was incredibly committed, a fearless advocate, and a true community asset. She contracted cancer mid-life; and died too young. Her family, friends and colleagues committed to a perpetual scholarship fund that has benefitted a huge number of students, our community, and honors the memory of this person.
A pair of cows were talking in the field. One says, “Have you heard about the mad cow disease that’s going around?”

“Yeah,” the other cow says. “Makes me glad I’m a penguin.”
The Legislature has authorized the Governor to employ emergency powers by statute in particular circumstances. The Legislature should fully exercise its oversight authority and responsibility whenever the Governor employs emergency powers.
Legislation to allow easier consolidation and streamlined administration of middle schools and high schools and incentive funding to help in that effort.
Ways and Means; Education; and Local Governments.
I have long worked with and supported the New York State Committee on Open Government. I believe that "sunshine is the best disinfectant."
