An election to recall City Councilman Michael Carlson was scheduled for November 7, 2023, in La Marque, Texas. Voters recalled Carlson.[1][2][3]

On August 4, 2023, Carlson submitted a letter of resignation. La Marque City Attorney Gus Knebel said Carlson could continue to serve until a successor was chosen. The recall election still appeared on the ballot. A special election to fill Carlson's position was scheduled for November 7, 2023.[4]

Recall supporters

Resident Robert Michetich submitted the recall petition. Michetich said the recall effort was initiated because Carlson did not resign after accepting a job in Mosier, Oregon.[2]

Signatures were submitted to the La Marque City Clerk on May 12, 2023. Of the signatures submitted, 115 were deemed valid. Organizers needed 105 valid signatures to trigger a recall election.[1]
