Michael Cobb was a 2011 Republican candidate for District 2 of the Mississippi State Senate.
Cobb has over nine years experience in the pharmaceutical and dental industries, and has worked for Darby Dental Supply since 2007.
Cobb, a 5th generation Mississippian, attended Mississippi Valley State University.[1]

Cobb lost in the 2011 election for Mississippi Senate District 2. He ran unopposed in the primary on August 2, 2011. Incumbent Bill Stone defeated Henry Boyd, Jr. in the Democratic primary. Stone defeated Cobb in the general election on November 8, 2011.[2]

Issues
On his website, Cobb outlines his viewpoints on the following issues:
- Strong economic development: "New jobs & economic development will be a top priority of mine when elected as your Mississippi State Senator. I will use every means available to me to attract business to District 2 and the surrounding area. We must successfully encourage business to locate in our area and we must come to the table with strong offers and tax incentives that new businesses can’t refuse. We have to get back to the basic principles of doing business and do what makes sense for our people. We have skilled and hard working people in District 2, and they deserve the quality jobs that it takes to support their families."[3]
- Education: "The future of Mississippi lies with our children and therefore I believe that education should be a top priority. Our children are our greatest asset and to further their development, we must see to it that our education system has the resources to always provide them the right tools to succeed. We must also ensure that our teachers are adequately compensated and given the incentives they need to provide our children with the skills necessary to compete in today’s world. Mississippi has ranked at the bottom of the education ladder too long and with proper application of resources we can begin to climb our way up the ladder and show the entire world why we consider ourselves the "Great State of Mississippi.""[3]
- Government: "I believe our state government needs to be more accessible and transparent. Citizens need to be more informed on what’s going on in our state and its spending. The people should know where their tax dollars are going and how their taxes are being budgeted. Its time to sit down and trim the fat from runaway spending, so the citizens don’t have to pickup the tab with higher taxes. I am for smaller government, stop wasteful spending and less taxes. I have always said, "Our state doesn’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem." The state of Mississippi spends a million dollars a day in interest on bonded money. It’s time to slow it down."[3]
- Family values: "The family is the core building blocks of our society. It is the responsibility of the family to bring up a child with strong Christian values, respect for others, sound character, dedication to hard work and dependence on personal responsibility. This is the way I was raised and my work in the legislature will reflect these values."[3]
- Human Life: "I am pro-life and believe that the unborn child has the right to life. This is not a choice, it’s an unborn child. I strongly oppose using public money to fund abortion or those groups which support abortion. I am also in favor of providing alternatives to abortion by meeting the needs of mothers and by providing adoption services that make it easy for those wishing to adopt. I am endorsed by the Mississippi Right to Life."[3]
- Law Enforcement: "Mississippi law enforcement is the front line in protecting the citizens of our state. These guys are putting their necks on the line everyday for our safety. I will always support them and be sure our law enforcement will have the tools and funds to do their jobs to the best of their ability."[3]
- Immigration Reform: "The purpose of government is to protect its citizens. This includes protection from the problems associated with massive and uncontrolled illegal immigration. Our representatives are elected to serve their constituent citizens, not foreign nationals who have broken our laws and are illegally in this country. I will work hard to preserve our national sovereignty and American jobs. Illegal immigration adds problems such as increase health care cost, increased education cost, unemployment, school crowding and increased welfare cost."[3]
- Senior Citizens: "Mississippi seniors deserve to retire in comfort and dignity after a lifetime of hard work, and I will always work hard to preserve Social Security and Medicare for today’s seniors and future generations. I will work against big pharmaceutical companies to prevent the rising costs of prescription drugs."[3]
- Second Amendment Rights: "I will always support the Second Amendment. It is your right own firearms and I will always stand up for those rights. I will never support anti gun and anti ammunition bills. I have an “A” rating with the National Rifle Association."[3]
