Public safety, homelessness, transportation and infrastructure, water quality, environmental protection.
Unlike Federal and State Governments, Municipal Government makes decisions that immediately and directly impact the people's day-to-day lives. Everything from immediate safety to basic necessities like sewer and water are shaped by policies made by the City Council.
To work on behalf of the people to responsibly manage public money in its allocation to municipal services designed to protect the people and their interests.
I was a junior in High School on 9/11. I then joined the Marine Corps delayed entry program and graduated early so I could go to Marine Corps bootcamp on contract to be an 0311.
Previous experience in State or higher office risk bringing bad habits from partisan politics. However, experience on city Boards or Commissions and on Council are great benefits as they reduce the learning curve of the position.
Analytical skills are crucial. Critical thinking and unbiased judgement are necessary in every decision that is asked of a Councilmember.
This office is the most direct link between the ordinary citizen and governmental policies that effect everything they do. The stop sign down the road, the potholes, the taste of the very water we drink is the consequence of local government.
Transparency in all aspects of government is essential to defend against corruption and the precipitating exploitation of the people. Transparency is the defense against becoming mere crops for a corrupt government.
