Michael Donahue's political philosophy included the idea that money is the root of all current issues, that "current shortfalls in local governments are a direct consequence of the failed policies of relying on the turbulent markets toward providing long term payouts."[2]

Donahue ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Rhode Island's 1st District. Donahue sought the nomination on the Republican ticket. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run was June 27, 2012. Donahue was up against Brendan Doherty in the September 11, 2012, Republican primary to unseat incumbent Rep. David N. Cicilline, Doherty won the election.
Rhode Island House
Donahue also ran in the 2012 election for Rhode Island House of Representatives District 68. Donahue was unopposed in the September 11 Republican primary and was defeated by Kenneth A. Marshall (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[3]
