Biography

Michael Ettorre was born in South Euclid, Ohio. He earned a high school diploma from Brush High School, an associate degree from Cuyahoga Community College in 2014, and a bachelor's degree from George Mason University in 2016. His career experience includes working as a nonprofit executive. Ettorre has been affiliated with Youth Opportunities Unlimited.[1]

Michael Ettorre is running for State Representative in the Ohio Statehouse. Born and raised in South Euclid, Ohio, Michael is the proud son of a teacher and a journalist. He has dedicated his career as an advocacy advisor and a nonprofit executive to expanding opportunities throughout our community. Michael's experience working in public school classrooms and workforce development programs has prepared him to offer sensible solutions the day his term begins.
  • Creation of state-funded paths to trade certifications, vocational careers, and apprenticeships to ensure that college is not the only prerequisite for future success in life. The more diverse paths to success we establish, the most success our community will experience.
  • The dignity of ALL work. No mater what you do for a living, you should have a say in your workplace. From the hours you work, to the pay you receive, to the safety conditions you work in. All work has dignity, and it is the legislatures job to ensure this exists throughout the state.
  • Stand up to the extremism that exists in the Ohio Statehouse. Whether it be anti-abortion legislation, union busting tactics, anti-LGBTQ bills, or pro-gun legislation, I will be a voice in Columbus that calls out their dangerous legislation and build coalitions throughout the state to fight those dangerous bills. This state needs a democratic fighter and someone who is willing to stand up for them on a daily basis. I will be that State Representative.
I am personally passionate about a lot of issues that affect our community, but two in particular are: increasing the employment options that those who choose not to go to college have and decreasing gun violence in our community. By providing state funded trade/vocational certificates, integrating these components throughout middle and high schools, and connecting them to local employers, we can educate, prepare, and keep talent employed in our neighborhoods. This will not only strengthen individuals and their families but will provide an educated workforce for employers in the area to hire. The second issue I am passionate about is reducing the gun violence our state is experiencing. The number one cause of death for children in America is currently gun violence, and that is totally unacceptable. A majority of Americans agree with universal background checks, an assault rifle ban, and waiting period before individuals can take home weapons. Legislation that should all be enacted immediately, and I will constantly advocate for. Making the situation even more deadly, In June, Ohio will become a state that does not require background checks, permits, or training for those who want to carry a concealed weapon. This dangerous legislation will only lead to more violence and death. We need state legislators who are willing to stand up to the NRA and gun lobby, and pass common sense gun legislation that this state, and country, so desperately need.
I look up to my parents. As a parent myself now, I marvel at what a great childhood my mom and dad provided my brother and I. The hard work, dedication, and care they each showed are shining examples of the parent that I hope to be.
The first historical event that I vividly remember was 9/11. I was twelve years old at the time.
My first job was working at Alesci's Italian Deli. I stayed in this position for over two years. I still use the interactions with customers as tutorial on successful communication, and a guide to proper customer service.
Ohio has no shortage of challenges. But one of the biggest challenges we face as a state is convincing people to stay or move here. Whether it be union busing legislation, anti-LGBTQ bills, or pro gun legislation, the legislature has made Ohio less appealing to live in.
I would like to be a part of the Economic and Workforce Development Committee, as well as the Higher Education and Career Readiness Committee.
I would like to model the public service that Senator Sherrod Brown embodies. His constant message of the dignity of all work is a tenant of my political beliefs, and one I look forward to legislating on once I am a State Representative.
I do believe that compromise is necessary for policy making. But I also believe there are issues where legislatively compromising actually harms people, and legislators have a duty to stand up and say no. There can be no compromise on anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ, and pro gun legislation.
