Michael Farrell
Michael Farrell was a judge on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. He was appointed to the court by President George H.W. Bush in 1989.[1] Farrell retired on July 1, 2008.[2]
Education
Farrell received his undergraduate degree in English from the University of Notre Dame in 1960 and a master of arts degree in German from Columbia University in 1966. He earned his J.D. from American University School of Law in 1973.[1]

Early career
Farrell began his professional career as chair of the English Department at Georgetown Preparatory School in Maryland.[1]
Career
Farrell began his legal career as a law clerk for Judge John P. Moore of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. Next, he joined the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice. In 1977, Farrell became deputy chief of the Appellate Division at the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. Five years later, he was elevated to chief of the Appellate Division. Farrell served in this position until joining the court.[1]
