The County Board unanimously appointed me Corporation Counsel in March 2021. As Corporation Counsel, I advise the elected officials and departments in legal matters and supervise the Corporation Counsel office of three attorneys and two staff. I was appointed by Chief Justice Roggensack to serve on the Commission for Children Commission for Children Courts and the Families where I still serve today.
I am on the Rhinelander Boys & Girls Club board and a volunteer coach in youth and high school football for the past 11 years. I was Hodag Gridiron Club VP and President for five years and a ski patroller since 2005, patrolling at Camp 10 near Rhinelander.
I had a career before law, working my way up from a front desk clerk to General Manager of The Vintage Hotel in Winter Park, CO, in four years. It was here that I met my wife, and we started our family. We are raising our five children in Rhinelander. Having chosen the Northwoods as our home, I am dedicated to continuing to serve the people of Oneida County.- Simply put, I want to serve as judge for Oneida County because I recognize how vital judges’ decisions are in maintaining a well-functioning, healthy community — and Oneida County is my community. As a judge, my professional knowledge, experiences, leadership skills, and commitment to clear communication will enable me to make sound and fair legal decisions that support and promote the health of our community and its residents. Senator Mary Felzkowski and Representative Rob Swearingen endorse me as Judge for Oneida County. Representative Rob Swearingen says, "Mike Fugle's a solid conservative, excellent attorney, a devoted husband and father to five children, and the best choice for Oneida County judge!"
- My broad experience gives me the training needed to make sound decisions based on the law and decide on fair and justifiable consequences. My practice has included criminal defense under state public defender contracts and private practice, small claims including evictions, civil disputes, family law, contracts, and prosecuting the closed, sensitive cases – children in need of protection, Mental Health Act, and guardianship. Through my experiences as both a criminal defense attorney and a prosecutor protecting the most vulnerable, I know that all sides of an issue need to be considered for a proper outcome. I recognize that actions do not necessarily define a person, but there are necessarily consequences for actions.
- To successfully serve the community, a judge needs to be a strong leader and foster a cooperative work environment in order to manage the courtroom and schedule effectively. I am run the office of three attorneys and two support staff. I have earned their trust and respect because I value them and recognize their integral importance to the work we do. I am a good listener and a decisive discussion-maker who considers all aspects of an issue and does not make rash decisions. I have also taught judges at the WI Judicial Conference and serve on the Commission for Children, Courts & the Families by judicial appointment. Prior to my law career, I was the General Manager of the 118 room premier hotel at the base of the Winter Park Ski Area.
