Custer ran for election to the Williamson County Court, Texas.
Primary: He ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on March 4, 2014.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 36.6 percent of the vote. He competed against Dan A. Gattis. [1][2][3]

Education

Custer has four degrees:

  • A bachelor's degree in English literature from Indiana University;
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso;
  • A master's in public health from Tulane University; and
  • A doctorate in public health from the University of Texas.[4]

Military experience

Custer spent 32 years working with the U.S. Army, retiring in 2010. He gained experience as an enlisted soldier in El Paso and held various positions within the Army Medical Department. He most recently served as director of health promotion at the Army Public Health Command in Aberdeen, Maryland.[4]

Custer was stationed in Iraq and Saudi Arabia.[4]
