Hicks provided the following statement in English and Spanish to the Pima County School Superintendent's office:
“ | I am product of TUSD and believe that with a vision for excellence that TUSD has developed over the past several years
and strong Board support for doing what is right, we can make TUSD the district it once was. My goal while on the TUSD governing board continues to focus on ensuring the best possible education for all our children, and to create a space where concerned students, parents and tax payers voices can and will be heard. Those who know me know that I believe in full disclosure, and in bringing transparency to the Tucson community regarding the business of TUSD. It is my intention to continue to call for and listen to public input on important matters, and to encourage fresh ideas from students, parents, teachers and tax payers. It has been clear that I am not afraid to ask the hard questions that lead to the best decisions for students and our community. I want to continue to continue to bring fiscal responsibility to the district, while keeping student achievement at the forefront. I am confident that if we work together, we will be able to improve the TUSD experience for everyone, and provide our children with the best quality education they deserve.[4][5] |

—Michael Hicks (2014) |
