Campaign themes

2014

Hunsweck's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[1]

Skin Color Act 5

  • Excerpt: "Racial discrimination is always wrong, and I believe the people of California will stand with us."

The economy

  • Excerpt: "I believe in lower taxes, limited government, and a strong private sector. The problem with raising tax rates is that it creates a drag on the private sector and hinders economic growth."

Energy policy

  • Excerpt: "A vibrant economy needs a good energy policy to support it. One of the cleanest sources of energy available to us in California is natural gas. We already use natural gas to generate our electricity, and to heat our homes and our hot water. We need to keep developing the abundant resources of natural gas we have right here in California."

School choice

  • Excerpt: "I am a strong supporter of school choice. I believe parents should decide which school is right for their kids. Also, the best way to lift children out of poverty is to give them a good education. School choice programs have rescued many kids from schools that were failing them, and have given them a chance to succeed."

Parental notification

  • Excerpt: "I believe in parental notification for teen girls. If abortion is a medical decision, then the doctor needs to let the parents know. While abortion is a difficult issue, it is important that we develop mainstream policies that can attract broad support and reduce the number of abortions. This one is common sense and should have been implemented already."
