My name is Michael Hutchinson. I am a veteran, a patriot, and I would like the honor of serving my friends and neighbors in the Minnesota House. I believe that our government is best when it is truly “by the people and for the people” and to often we forget that we are the government and it is supposed to serve us all. I will not be bought. I do not accept any money from organizations, companies or political action committees. When elected I will serve the interests of the people in my district and the residents of Minnesota, not corporate donors or special interest groups.
  • We can do better for everyone. The rural areas of Minnesota have historically elected representatives that rail against the government and question its ability to compete against private interests. When they are elected they spend their time dismantling the programs and policies that benefit our communities, de-regulating industries causing price increases and cutting taxes for the rich. I believe the government can work well for us all, we just need to make sure that we create programs that respond to the needs of our communities, have the proper oversight and punish harshly all forms of corruption and waste.
  • Nutritious food and clean water are a right and as Minnesota is one of the most fertile areas of farmland in the world, we have no excuse for hunger in our communities. I think that providing every child breakfast and lunch free at school is a good start, but we need to expand this to make sure that children in our state do not need to worry about being hungry, that the elderly and infirmed have the nutrition they need, and that the water in all our communities is safe to drink.
  • Our rural communities need proper funding for our emergency services, schools and infrastructure. It is a representative's job to make sure the state is properly allocating funding for local staffing as well as larger projects. Rural fire, ambulance and safety personnel need more funding for training and to properly compensate those who spend their lives protecting and serving our communities.
My passion is making the government work for everyday Americans, not catering to the rich and powerful. I hope to show that our system can make the lives of every citizen better when the people in charge are not trying to enrich themselves.
Elliot Ness. He was a dedicated, life long civil servant who valued his honor and integrity so highly they called him "untouchable". He was an unstoppable force for the good of the people who specialized in fighting corruption and greed.
To serve the people of their district and to use the power of the Government to improve the lives of all citizens.
I want to leave the world better for not just the next generation, but help set a foundation that will eventually launch mankind across the stars.
I was a sophomore in high school on September 11th and I remember how the US changed. We went from time of general happiness and prosperity to fear and anger, and I do not think we have fully recovered.

All elected parties should be working together to improve the lives of the citizens in their state. Disagreement should lead to debate and compromise, not tantrums and gridlock.
No, we need more people with real world experience, not just career politicians who are bought and paid for.
Yes, our government works best when we can civilly discuss options and make compromises. It is unfortunate that so much of our politics are binary, either left or right, when in most situations we have hundreds of "dials and switches" that we can adjust to find the best solution for the most people. So few choices are black and white, but our current two party system makes us choose like they are, and that is not helping anything.
A specific story, no, because I have heard the same story many times about families have to pick between rent or food and how only thanks to the local food shelf are they able to eat. In the past year the amount of food provided by our local food shelves has increased by 60%, and at times some of the shelves have had to close early due to lack of food.
I would like to introduce a bill to raise taxes on corporate owned single family and condo style housing to make investment properties less profitable (they remove wealth from our communities). It would also put that money back into our communities with grants to offset costs of new construction for single family starter homes in rural and sub-urban areas.

The government should always be transparent in its spending. Accountability is the tool we use to identify and weed out corruption.
