Michael J. Distel is a judge of the Michigan 61st District Court.
Distel ran for re-election for judge of the Michigan 61st District Court. He won in the general election on November 8, 2016.
Distel was appointed by Republican Governor Rick Snyder on December 12, 2014.[1]
Distel was appointed Chief Judge on November 18, 2021.[2]
Biography
Distel received a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and a J.D. from the University of Detroit.[3] He was an attorney with Bolhouse, Baar and Lefere PC from 2012 to 2014.[1]

2016
Michigan held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election occurred on August 2, 2016. The candidate filing deadline for incumbents was March 21, and the deadline for non-incumbents was April 19.[4] Incumbent Michael J. Distel ran unopposed in the 61st District (partiali term) general election.[5]

Judges of the Michigan District Courts are each elected to six-year terms.[6] The elections for this court are nonpartisan contested elections. To serve on this court, a judge must be a qualified elector of the district, licensed to practice law in the state, under the age of 70, and have five years of experience practicing law.
