Michael J. Raphael
Michael J. Raphael is a judge for Division 2 of the California 4th District Court of Appeal. He assumed office in 2018. His current term ends on January 4, 2027.
Raphael ran for re-election for the Division 2 judge of the California 4th District Court of Appeal. He won in the retention election on November 8, 2022.
Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown appointed Raphael to the California Fourth District Court of Appeal to replace Justice Thomas E. Hollenhorst on July 24, 2018, and he was confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments on August 23, 2018.[1][2]
Raphael was a judge on the Superior Court of Los Angeles County in California from 2011 to 2018. He was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown.[3]

Raphael received his undergraduate degree from Rice University and his J.D. from Yale Law School.[3]
