Michael J. Sullivan is a partner at the national law firm Lewis Roca Rothgerber LLP. He is the former governor of Wyoming and former United States ambassador to Ireland.
Career
Sullivan earned a B.S. in petroleum engineering in 1961 and a law degree in 1964 from the University of Wyoming. After college, he worked as a trial lawyer in Casper, Wyoming, focusing on personal injury and malpractice litigation.[1]
Sullivan held a fellowship in the Institute of Politics at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government in 1996. Under both former Presidents George H.W. Bush (R) and Bill Clinton (D), Sullivan served as United States ambassador to Ireland (1998 to 2001).[2]
He is a life member of the University of Wyoming Alumni Association and a member of the university's Campus Advisory Board. He also served as chair of the board for the W.D. Ruckelshaus Institute of Environment and Natural Resources, which is part of the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Wyoming. It aims to advance "the understanding and resolution of complex environmental and natural resources challenges and [support] stakeholder-driven solutions to environmental challenges."[2][3]

Governor of Wyoming
In 1986, Sullivan was elected governor of Wyoming. He was re-elected in 1990. While he was governor, Sullivan worked with several organizations:[1]

- Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, chair, 1990[5]
- Alliance for Acid Rain Control[8]
- National Governors Association, executive committee
2016 presidential election
The Casper Star Tribune reported in April 2016 that Sullivan endorsed Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign. He said that he was "convinced she brings the experience, leadership, and capacity to make a positive difference in the lives of our citizens."[9]
