Michael Kleinik
Michael Kleinik was the Illinois Director of Labor. Kleinik assumed office on May 31, 2019. Kleinik left office on January 31, 2022.
Kleinik was named acting director of labor, pending confirmation, by Governor J.B. Pritzker (D) on January 17, 2019.[1][2] He succeeded Acting Director Joe Beyer. On May 31, 2019, the Illinois State Senate unanimously confirmed Kleinik.[3] He retired on January 31, 2022.[4]
Biography
Kleinik was the executive director of the Medical Cannabis Alliance of Illinois from 2018 to 2019. He was the executive director of the Chicago Laborers’ District Council’s Labor-Management Cooperation Committee from 2008 to 2018. From 2004 to 2008, Kleinik was the chief of staff at the state Department of Labor. He was a sheriff in Fayette County, Illinois, from 1990 to 1998.[5]

Governor J.B. Pritzker appointed Kleinik acting director of labor in January 2019, to replace Acting Director Joe Beyer. He served in an acting capacity until May 2019. On May 31, 2019, the Illinois State Senate unanimously confirmed Kleinik.[1][3] He retired on January 31, 2022.[4]
