Michael L. Wassell was a 2014 candidate for the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit Court in Illinois.[1]

Wassell ran for election to the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit Court.
Primary: He ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on March 18, 2014.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 36.7 percent of the vote. He competed against Terence M. Patton. [1][2]

The Illinois State Bar Association and participating attorneys rated Michael L. Wassell as Recommended for election in a 2014 poll.[3]

Education

Wassell graduated from United Township High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served until 1974. He received his A.A. from Black Hawk College with honors in 1976 and his B.S. from St. Ambrose University with honors in 1978. He earned his J.D. from the Northern Illinois University School of Law in 1985.[4]

Career

After graduating from high school, Wassell served in the U.S. Marine Corps until 1974. He spent seven years as a police officer in Moline, Illinois before going to law school. In 1985 he began working as an assistant state's attorney for Winnebago County and was promoted to chief DUI-misdemeanor prosecutor. In 1986 he was hired as an assistant state's attorney for Henry County. In 1988, he began to work in private practice with the firm Braud/Warner, Ltd. which became VanDerGinst Law, P.C.[4]
