Campaign themes

2015

McDonald's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[3]

Economy

  • Excerpt: "We need to attract business to Houston from other parts of the country and abroad. This is done through regulations and a tax system that people can understand and count on. We also need to move our permit process along in Houston to speed up the growth of our great city."

Streets

  • Excerpt: "Potholes are everywhere and the temporary fixes are not lasting. We need solid solutions to these problems. We need to spend infrastructure money on Houston infrastructure not bailing our city's debts. We were promised the water fees would be spent on infrastructure and the funds would be more than enough to cover our city needs. Yet this is not the reality we live in years after the water fee was introduced."

Education

  • Excerpt: "We need to ensure that we are teaching our children equally in quality through the city. We have to take note from our mistakes on the east side of Houston. If you kill the schools you kill the community with it."

Drugs

  • Excerpt: "Yes we need to combat the crime. However, we also need to treat the addiction. If there are no customers the store is closed."

Equality

  • Excerpt: "Each citizen in our city should enjoy equal rights under the law. Each person is entitled to equal opportunity and dignity in our great city. Our best efforts as individuals and as a governing body must strive for that goal of equality for all."

Police and fire department pensions

  • Excerpt: "We should not have any police or firemen living on government assistance programs. I fear that is where they will be if we continue to chop up their pensions to balance the city budget. It is not their fault someone was not a good steward of the people's money."
