Michael Meese is a retired U.S. Army brigadier general and the chief operating officer and secretary of the American Armed Forces Mutual Aid Association (AAFMAA). Meese was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team, a group of advisors tasked with recommending presidential appointments for the incoming administration.[1][2]
Career
Meese earned a B.S. in international relations from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1981 and a Ph.D. in public policy analysis from Princeton University in 1990. He began his career in the U.S. Army in 1977 and retired in 2013 as a brigadier general. Since his retirement, Meese has taught at Princeton University, the United States Military Academy at West Point, and Georgetown University. He has served as the chief operating officer and secretary of the American Armed Forces Mutual Aid Association (AAFMAA) since 2013.[1][3]
Donald Trump presidential transition team, 2016-2017
Meese was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team in his first presidential term. The transition team was a group of around 100 aides, policy experts, government affairs officials, and former government officials who were tasked with vetting, interviewing, and recommending individuals for top cabinet and staff roles in Trump's administration. He was the team's advisor on defense and veterans affairs.[2][4]
