Married 43 years, 4 adult children, 14 grandchildren. My wife Janis and I own and operate Prairie Oaks Inn B&B and Flying M Ranch. I am a retired Captain with United Airlines, former senior writer for Madison’s and Lanternz online magazines and author of the novel Spare Time. I am just finishing my second term as State Representative of Kansas 114th District. In August I won the Republican Primary for Kansas State Senate District 34.
  • Kansans tax burden is 12th highest in the nation. This is unacceptable. I have worked to reduce property taxes and will continue to do so.
  • I was one of the first legislators in the nation to introduce a bill to protect our citizens from ESG metrics brought on by large financial institutions and outside organizations such as the UN and WEF. I was successful in getting part of the legislation through, I plan to continue that effort.
  • My first term I cosponsored legislation to make gold and silver legal tender. Last year I introduced legislation to create a state depository with transactional gold and silver for everyday expenses. The technology exists to make this possible and Article 1, Section 10 of the US Constitution allows states to have their own currency if it is gold or silver. The rights of citizens to be secure in their money should be a priority. If we are forced into a CBDC or there is a collapse in the US Dollar, our citizens should have an option available.
In addition to the above issues, I have worked on a program to help high school seniors obtain industry certificates to enter the workforce. Many kids do not need college, we have far too many with worthless degrees and we also have a huge need for technical workers. Obtaining an industry certificate often leads not only to a good paying job, it can set up a young person to have their own business.
Honesty, integrity…tied to Constitutional guidelines. Government primary duty is to secure our rights and provide basic infrastructure.
My experience as a writer helps as I research the core cause of a problem. Government often puts “bandaids on cancer”. We need to do better at addressing the root cause of a problem and stopping or preventing the problem. The bills I have championed do just this.
That I was faithful to God, the Constitution, my family and community.
Pulling weeds in a strawberry farm. Just a few weeks.
The Bible, it has all the answers.
We should be willing and able to work together as we can. I have worked with the governor’s office in the past and will in the future.
Keeping the rural areas properly represented and removing obstacles so retention of the population and growth is possible
Yes. There is a learning curve as to navigating the process, building a coalition of representatives and senators to get bills heard and passed on the floor, then to the governor.
A representative is one of 125, a senator is one of 40. If you are a loner or refuse to work with anyone you will fail miserably, no matter how good your ideas are.
John Quincy Adams, he was an amazing man who sought to serve in any way he could, never looking to place himself in the light.
Emergency powers have and can be abused. In most cases the people should be in charge, with some local control to protect life and property
Students for Life, Kansans for Life, KSRA, NRA, SMART, Convention of States, NFIB, KFB, KLA
Fed and State, Utilities, Tax and Transportation
Too often special deals are made to entice certain businesses or organizations. These deals pass tax burdens on to the citizens. Government should stay within its “lane”, verify it is not wasting tax dollars, that it is not doing things people should do for themselves. Our budget process should be based on the previous year’s spending with an eye on cutting rather than growing government spending.
This is a horrible idea. We do not have a democracy, which is essentially mob rule. States have had disastrous results due to outside money and influence pushing through special interest deals.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Kansas

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
