Making College Affordable
Getting an education beyond high school is important for our students. Whether kids want to pursue a career in the skilled trades or a four-year degree, our communities have colleges, universities and apprenticeship programs or trade schools where they can get the education and training they need. But these schools and programs are expensive, and many families have a very tough time finding a way to pay for tuition. Michael doesn’t think any student should have to give up on their goals and dreams because of the cost of college or a trade school. He’ll work to reign in college costs so that no students are who has the will and desire to continue their education is turned away because of the cost or left with a mountain of debt.

Holding Government Accountable
You work hard for your money, and you have every right to know that your tax dollars are being spent wisely. Unfortunately, Michigan is ranked near the bottom of all states in terms of government transparency and accountability. Michael learned from his dad, the late Richard Notte who was mayor of Sterling Heights for 22 years, that government officials should be open, accountable and careful with taxpayers’ money. Michael will support government reforms that make state elected officials open and accountable to the people who voted them into office.

An Economy That Works For All of Us
Michael knows how to work hard from his 22 years in the auto industry. And he knows that Michigan’s economy doesn’t favor workers. Attacks on workers make it hard for families to get ahead no matter how much they try to save for their kids’ education and their retirement. Michael will work to create an economy that works for everyone, so hard-working Michiganders can take care of their families, and our kids can choose to stay here to work and live just like he has.

Restoring Revenue Sharing to Help our Communities
Michael will fight to restore revenue sharing funds to our local governments. Cuts to revenue sharing have made it difficult for local officials to provide the services that residents and businesses rely on. Fixing our local roads, providing trash pickup and recycling services, and paying for firefighters and police protection are the services that make our communities places where people want to live, work and raise their families. Michael will be a strong voice for our local communities to make sure that we get our fair share of state revenue sharing funds to keep our communities safe and our local economies growing.[2]

Elections for the Michigan House of Representatives took place in 2016. The primary election was held on August 2, 2016, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016. The candidate filing deadline was April 19, 2016. Incumbent Jeff Farrington (R) did not seek re-election because of term-limits.
