Michael P. Gibbons is a judge for Department 2 of the Nevada Court of Appeals. He assumed office on January 5, 2015. His current term ends on December 31, 2028.
Gibbons ran for re-election for the Department 2 judge of the Nevada Court of Appeals. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Gibbons was appointed to the court by Governor Brian Sandoval on December 17, 2014.[1][2] Gibbons was sworn in on January 5, 2015, and named chief judge of the court. His term as chief ended on January 1, 2017.[3][4]
Gibbons was one of three judges appointed to form the court, which was created in 2014 by a voter-approved constitutional amendment.[5][6]
Michael P. Gibbons is the brother of Nevada Supreme Court Justice Mark Gibbons.[7]
Education
Gibbons received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Los Angeles and his J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law.[8]
Career
From 1994 until he joined the Nevada Court of Appeals bench in 2015, Gibbons served as a judge for the Ninth Judicial District Court in Douglas County, Nevada.[9][10][11] Gibbons was re-elected to the Ninth Judicial District Court in June 2014, but was then appointed to the Nevada Court of Appeals in December of that year. Before his judicial career, Gibbons served as a chief deputy district attorney in Douglas County and was a law clerk for District Judge Howard D. McKibben.[8][10]
