My name is Michael Powell, and I am running for Louisville Metro Council District 14. I am running to provide a voice for those in Southwest Jefferson county and will seek to create a positive change by halting the slow decline of our neighborhood. As your councilman, my promise to you is that I will always put the people of my district above any political party or agenda. For too long, our district has been overlooked or overshadowed. I will fight for the best interest of district 14 over the special interests of others. Together we can build a community that is safer for our children while also creating an environment that will draw businesses and opportunities for future growth. Vote for me if you are ready for change.
We need to make sure that our tax dollars are used wisely and effectively. I feel that every metro department needs to be audited to find areas or mismanagement and waste. Policies that prohibit public access to information also need to be revisited. We must create a culture of transparency and accountability at all levels of local government. The public must be allowed to help shape and mold future policies. The Status Quo has got to go!
Metro Council can enact ordinances that directly affect local citizens. This quality is crucial because it dictates what is important to the city and residents. Within that authority, they must seek to represent the community at large and set the stage for equality for all residents.
The core responsibilities of any officeholder are to their constituents. They must be willing to put the people above any political agendas or special interests. They must also be willing to listen to those they represent even if that person holds different views. They are responsible to act within the constitution as well.
I would like to be remembered as someone who loved everyone. Someone who was willing to fight for their principles and stand against injustice in any form. I love this community and hope to make it a better place for future generations.
Yes. Many people do not understand that the Metro Council and the Mayor's office have equal responsibility. The Metro Council must keep the Mayor within his legal scope in leading the city. However, over the past few years, the Metro Council has been limited in its willingness to address any mismanagement and inclusion upon decision making. The two bodies should work in tandem to move the city forward rather than the Metro Council being reactionary to failed and dangerous policies.
