Michael R. Godlewski was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 112 of the New York State Assembly.

Campaign themes

2016

Godlewski's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Taxes

I will fight to cut County Property Taxes by as much as 50% by eliminating the unfunded mandate associated with Medicaid Funding. Currently, New York State requires counties to shoulder the expenses of Medicaid while the State mandates how the money is to be spent. This must stop: Medicaid is a State program and the State should pay for it.

Jobs

I will fight to bring good paying jobs to our area. We have seen what happens when the public sector works with the private sector to foster job creation. In the areas bordering our Assembly District we have prime examples how this works. Malta and the City of Schenectady have both benefited greatly—and I will fight to bring the lessons learned there to our community.

Education

I will fight to ensure each and every school district within our Assembly District gets its fair share of State Aid. In addition I will fight to ensure that graduating High School Students have access to a free education at SUNY Schools. To be eligible for this program students must agree to perform a substantial amount of community service during their time in college and must agree to work in New York State for 5 years after graduation. This will provide students with access to education without fear of crushing debt and will provide all of us with a well-educated work force.

Fighting for Our Children

I will fight for stronger laws to protect children from abuse and neglect. Children are not adequately protected and we must do everything in our power to protect children so they have the opportunity to succeed. In addition, I will fight to end the opioid epidemic. This is both a law enforcement problem and a public health crisis. We need to use all available resources to end this epidemic so that our children and our community can be safe.

Caring for Our Elderly

I will fight to make home healthcare and home aides more affordable for our families. Children should not face the dilemma of taking on massive amounts of debt to keep their parents at home or sending parents to nursing homes. We must make it affordable for our parents to be able to stay in their homes without saddling our families with insurmountable debt.[1]
