Hello! I have lived in Fort Worth all my life and primarily work in construction and customer service. As a resident in Fort Worth I’ve noticed that Fort Worth despite the massive increase in gdp over the past 20 years has become frankly unaffordable for many of our residents. I believe that this has occurred for several reasons, first of all I believe our previous city officials haven’t done enough to address the housing crisis, cost of living crisis, and the fact that very few jobs in Fort Worth are paying livable wages. Secondly I believe that a large part of the reason that this has occurred is directly due to the Texas government refusing to allow local officials to raise the minimum wage, prevent land lords from price gouging, right to work laws, and other anti-worker laws. I believe that not only is it my duty to create/ strengthen policy’s that help the working class of Fort Worth as a whole, but also I believe as an elected official it should be my duty to put as much pressure on the Texas government to change their corrupt policy’s as possible.
  • First of all, it’s obvious that the cost of housing is way too expensive in Fort Worth. One example of this is my first apartment in Fort Worth being $1,100 per month then after the year lease expired they raised the rent by around 20% to about $1,300 a month without actually improving the apartment itself. So I believe the best way to combat this is to start by declaring a homelessness/ municipal housing crisis so that we’re able to enact policy’s that restrict landlords ability to raise rent by more than 5% per year. Additionally I believe we should use unused public land to build publicly owned housing that we should rent out for as cheap as possible so we’re able to deflate the incredibly high cost of housing.
  • Secondly, I believe it’s obvious given how fast Fort Worth as a city is growing that we need to invest in more infrastructure and public transportation. In Fort Worth it’s likely that we’ll have a million people by the end of the year and we’re one of the fastest growing large city’s in the whole country. Everyone knows that if we primarily use roads as our main source of transportation that it will be incredibly inefficient and by investing in expanding our railway system in Fort Worth not only will it be easier to travel in Fort Worth but also it’ll bring a huge source of jobs into our community.
  • Additionally, I believe they’re is a severe lack of jobs that pay livable wages to the people of Fort Worth. That’s exactly why I believe we should cut back on the massive amount of privatization that is occurring in our infrastructure projects which has led to higher costs for the tax payers and worse job opportunities for the workers. Instead of privatizing these projects I believe that we should be utilizing municipal corporations and public jobs programs to build these infrastructure projects more efficiently, more affordably, and provide much better stable job opportunities for the workers in these projects. And for the projects that we keep privatized I believe we should require these companies to pay a living wage to their employees.
I’m passionate about expanding worker protections, making the city more affordable, improving public services, making Fort Worth a better place to live for everyone not just the few.
I believe one of the most important aspects of an elected official is that they are relatable to the average constituent. The fact is that not everyone is a millionaire, and not everyone has gone to prestigious universities, but these people are drastically over represented in politics and I believe as a direct result of politicians sharing completely different experiences in life, this has led to a system where the average person doesn’t think the system is working for them and instead the system is working against them. If your elected official hasn’t lived similarly to the average constituent how do you expect them to understand your problems when you say the cost of living is too high, there aren’t enough job opportunities, and so on.
I would like to leave a legacy of abundance in our local office where people’s voices are truly listened to and where anyone can succeed in Fort Worth despite the zip code they were born into.
