Michael Schmitt
Michael Schmitt is the former chair of the Kentucky Public Service Commission. He was appointed to the commission by Governor Matt Bevin (R) on June 21, 2016, filling a vacancy on the commission.[1] He was reappointed on June 19, 2019. Schmitt resigned in 2021.[2]
Biography
Prior to joining the Kentucky Public Service Commission, Schmitt was a partner in the law firm Porter, Schmitt, Banks & Baldwin, based in Paintsville, Kentucky. At the firm, Schmitt represented energy companies and local school boards of education.[1]

Schmitt was appointed by Gov. Matt Bevin to fill a vacancy on the commission on June 21, 2016. Schmitt was selected to serve as the chair of the commission.[1] His appointment was praised by Kentucky's Energy and Environmental cabinet secretary, Charles Snavely, who said,
“ | Mr. Schmitt’s vast legal experience in the energy sector, in state education as well as his work with the Kentucky League of Cities makes him eminently qualified to guide the regulatory work of the commission.[3][4] | ” |
Schmitt served on the commission until 2021.[2]
