I’m Michael Slaughter — a lifelong Texan, Real Estate Broker, and committed public servant with deep roots in Collin County. I’ve had the honor of serving on the Parker City Council as both a Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tem, where I worked to protect our community’s character while ensuring responsible growth. Over the years, I’ve also served on numerous local and state boards, bringing a practical, results-driven approach to every role.

Professionally, I’ve built a successful career in real estate, helping families and businesses thrive. I’ve also proudly served as a reserve police officer, and I believe strongly in law and order, personal liberty, and accountable government. As a husband, father, and conservative, I value faith, freedom, and fiscal responsibility.

Now, I’m running for Collin County Commissioner, Precinct 2, because I believe we need strong, transparent leadership to protect our values, keep taxes low, and ensure that Collin County remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

  • Strong, Accountable Leadership for Collin County I’ve served as a Councilmember, Mayor Pro Tem, reserve police officer, and board member at the local and state levels. I understand what it takes to lead with integrity. I’m running to ensure that Collin County has strong, transparent, and accountable leadership that puts our residents first — not special interests.
  • Protecting Our Communities and Conservative Values Collin County is growing fast, and we must preserve what makes it special. I will fight for responsible development, low taxes, and policies that protect our rural heritage, personal freedoms, and law enforcement. I’ll stand up for the values that make our communities strong and safe.
  • Proven Experience in Business and Public Service As a Real Estate Broker and small business owner, I know how to manage budgets and get things done. My experience on city council and multiple boards has prepared me to serve on day one. I’ll bring common sense, fiscal discipline, and real-world experience to the Commissioners Court.

My mother who has always been a rock in our family. As my father passed away when I was young, she filled both roles in our home and never let us know how hard it was for her. She is a rock and I am the person I am today because of her.

I believe several key qualities position me to be an effective and successful officeholder. First and foremost, I bring real-world experience — as a business owner, Real Estate Broker, and current reserve law enforcement officer, I understand both the challenges families face and the importance of fiscal responsibility. I also bring a strong record of public service, having served as a Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tem, as well as on multiple local and state boards.

I lead with integrity, transparency, and accountability, always putting the interests of the community above politics. I’m a problem-solver who listens, works collaboratively, and isn’t afraid to make tough decisions when needed. Most importantly, I have a genuine passion for serving others and a deep commitment to protecting the values that make Collin County a great place to live.

I want to leave a legacy of principled leadership, servant-hearted dedication, and lasting impact on the community I love. My goal is to be remembered as someone who stood up for what’s right, put people over politics, and made decisions that strengthened Collin County for future generations. I hope my service reflects a deep respect for law enforcement, a commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility, and a strong belief in preserving the values that make Texas exceptional. If I can leave behind safer neighborhoods, smarter infrastructure, and a government that truly serves its people — I’ll consider that a legacy worth being proud of.

I believe the most important characteristics for an elected official are integrity, accountability, and a servant’s heart. Integrity means doing the right thing — even when no one is watching — and staying true to your values. Accountability means being transparent with the people you serve, listening to their concerns, and making decisions that reflect their best interests, not political convenience. And above all, an elected official should approach the role with a servant’s heart — putting the needs of the community above their own and working every day to earn the trust and respect of the people they represent.

The core responsibilities of a County Commissioner include being a strong steward of taxpayer dollars, ensuring county government operates efficiently and transparently, and making informed decisions that directly impact the daily lives of residents. That means overseeing infrastructure improvements like roads and bridges, supporting public safety and emergency services, and planning for responsible growth that preserves our communities’ character. It also means being a visible, accessible representative who listens to constituents, advocates for their needs, and works with integrity to uphold the values and priorities of the people in the precinct.

I’m passionate about public policies that prioritize safety, transparency, and smart growth. I fully support our law enforcement officers and will always stand with those who put their lives on the line to protect our communities. I believe taxpayers deserve transparency at every level of government — clear communication, fiscal responsibility, and accountability for how every dollar is spent. I’m also committed to advocating for improved infrastructure to support our rapidly growing population, ensuring our roads, water systems, and public services are built to meet the needs of both today and tomorrow.

These are cornerstone principles that all governance should be built on. Taxpayers deserve to know where their money is spent and all government is accountable to the people it serves.

Sherlock Holmes has always been my favorite book because it combines sharp intellect, keen observation, and the relentless pursuit of truth — qualities I admire and strive to embody. The way Holmes dissects complex mysteries with logic and precision has always fascinated me. Beyond the thrill of the cases, the stories highlight the value of paying attention to details, thinking critically, and never jumping to conclusions — lessons that apply far beyond detective work. Holmes’ unwavering commitment to justice, even when it’s inconvenient or unpopular, is something I deeply respect and connect with personally.

Losing my father at a young age had a profound impact on my life and shaped the person I am today. It taught me early on about responsibility, resilience, and the importance of stepping up for others. Without his guidance, I had to grow up quickly and learn how to navigate challenges with determination and faith. That experience gave me a deep appreciation for family, hard work, and the value of strong role models. It also instilled in me a desire to serve and protect others — to be the kind of steady presence I once needed — and it continues to drive my commitment to making a positive difference in my community.

“Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was outstanding in his field.”

I’d choose is Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. He represents integrity, fairness, and moral courage — standing firm for what’s right, even when it’s unpopular or difficult. Atticus leads by example, treats others with respect regardless of their background, and believes in the power of justice and truth. His calm, principled approach to challenges and his commitment to doing the right thing resonate deeply with my own beliefs about leadership and public service.

Yes — if someone wants to understand my political philosophy, I would recommend reading The Federalist Papers, particularly the writings of James Madison. They offer a powerful foundation for understanding limited government, individual liberty, and the importance of checks and balances — principles I hold deeply. I also find The 5000 Year Leap by W. Cleon Skousen to be a compelling read; it highlights the unique principles that guided the founding of our nation and the role of moral and constitutional government. For a more modern perspective, I’d suggest watching Reagan or reading A Time for Choosing, as President Reagan’s message of personal responsibility, faith in the American people, and limited government continues to inspire my approach to public service.
