2014

Timmons' website highlighted the following campaign themes:

Health Care

Health Care is the hottest topic currently on the house floor. LD1587 would allow 60,000 additional Medicaid expansion to the uninsured. This week, the House and Senate will take up the compromise which will add managed care to the State's system. It is expected that the Governor will veto this bill. This issue will be back.

Economy

There are many viewpoints shared about energy. Energy is a complex issue but one that will not go away and one of the foundations of our global economy. This topic touches our lives in many ways. Natural Gas coming to Cumberland, Falmouth, and Yarmouth is huge. It is estimated that the Town of Cumberland will save approximately $200,000 dollars a year heating the schools.

Taxes

Yes March 17, 2014 Maine's general sales tax increased from 5 percent to 5,5 percent. Taxes on meals and lodging went from 7 percent to 8 percent. Plus periodicals and newspapers became taxable for the first time. This issue will appear in the next session as it is suppose to be a temporary tax. I would not support keeping this increase.

Education

The Town of Cumberland school system rates near the top in the State. The research on two key reforms," Proficiency Based Diploma" and "Common Core State Standards" means the first class under these reforms will graduate in 2018. All students must show mastery of all eight content areas. For more information you can go to Maine Department of Education or U .S. Department of Education. The U.S. Department of Education reforms that will impact us in the future." Reforming No Child left Behind," "Turning around low achieving students," "Redesigning America's High School", and "Race to the top"

Minimum Wage

A move in the country to increase minimum wage to $10.10 cents. The impact of this on our youth will only increase unemployment.. It is already very hard for youth to jobs.[9][10]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Maine

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
