2015

Vargas provided the following statements on his campaign website:

Access to a quality education in the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District is the key to success for ALL San Benito residents. Our students, teachers, and community deserve better leaders who actually understand our education system.

I believe the residents of San Benito deserve:

RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP

  • Make decisions that align with educational priorities.
  • Establish greater transparency with all budgetary and human resource decisions.
  • Always keep students’ interests in mind, with sound financial resources.

MODERN SCHOOL SYSTEMS

  • Make sure resource allocation is equitable for all campuses.
  • Invest more in STEM initiatives and technology for all classrooms.
  • Promote a Capital Investment Project Fund that puts a focus on better resource stewardship for our students.

COMPETITIVE STUDENTS

  • Raise and maintain high academic expectations for all stakeholders – students, parents, and community at large.
  • Support individual success not only for the top quartile of students, but proactively invest in the bottom quartile students as well.
  • Align priorities with a higher education and beyond focus – provide students with knowledge and skills that will allow them to adapt and grow with a changing job market, and become creative thinkers, problem solvers and communicators.
  • Build an early learning system that meets the diverse needs of families with programs and services that are accessible, affordable and high quality.[6]
