I am a small business owner and a Marine Corps combat veteran.
  • The Republican Party has lost its way and needs to move past Donald Trump
  • The federal government is too big and needs to be smaller
  • We need a national security strategy focused on countering China
-Pro-Life

-Pro-gun
-Pro-oil
-Immigration/Secure borders

-Religious liberty
Abraham Lincoln is my hero. His politics revolved around protecting and extending the principles set forth in the Declaration of Independence. He is the greatest statesman the world has ever known because of his ability to translate his ideals not just into beautiful rhetoric or moving appeals to emotion, but to actual, practical results. He is the ideal towards which all politicians should strive.
Congressmen must have a firm understanding of the issues facing the country, and ideas about how to improve the country's freedom, prosperity and security. Congressmen must have a firm and deep understanding of the Constitution they swear and oath to defend. Congressmen should not hide from their constituents, which is why I've promised to hold a town hall every month if elected where anyone can ask me anything.
I have a firm understanding of the problems facing the country and how to solve them. I have experience both as a Marine and as a small business owner that give me insights into the most pressing issues facing the country. I am plainspoken and will tell the people the truth, even if they are hard truths.
Congressmen must work to pass laws, pass budgets, conduct oversight of the executive branch, and help their constituents navigate any problems they have with the federal government.
I would like to make the Republican Party again a party of ideas and not a cult of personality centered on Donald Trump. I would like to grow the economy and also reform the social safety net to promote work and families. I would like to rebuild the Navy and Marine Corps to counter an increasingly aggressive China. I would like to secure our borders.
1776 by David McCullough. We are lucky as Americans to have such a rich and noble history. This book tells in a very gripping fashion the story of the first patriots who struggled to fight tyranny and establish a free republic.
The economic contraction of 2020 directly hit me as a small businessman. The burdens placed on small businesses and the difficulty of keeping your doors open is not theoretical to me - I've lived it. I understand the struggles and ambitions of people who own or work for small businesses, and I want to make sure that the federal government does not place any more burdens on the backs of those who are at the heart of the American economy.
Maybe, although extensive government experience can also lead to a separation from the people that public servants are supposed to serve. Unfortunately, service in the legislative branch is no longer seen as a “tour of duty” that takes up just a part of a patriot’s life. Instead it has become a career in and of itself, where some members serve for decades and slowly lose the sight of why they went to DC in the first place. The powers of incumbency associated with being a member of Congress have created a “political class” far too separated from the country and people they represent. To break this cycle the Constitution must be amended to require term limits. This will allow fresh talent to go to Washington, and will also help keep the legislative branch close to the people it is supposed to represent. Related to this, I have promised to hold a town hall every month if I am elected, where any citizen can ask me any question about any topic. I do not believe that congressmen should hide from their constituents, and I will never forget who I am working for in DC.
-Spending: I do not believe that Republicans should only care about the national debt when a Democrat is in the White House. We currently have a $28 trillion debt. This is unsustainable and will only get worse without significant reform.

-Immigration: The federal government is failing in one of its most basic responsibilities. The border must be secured and the entire system overhauled.

-China: The relationship between China and the United States will define the 21st-century. We must have a national security strategy and military focused not on democratizing other countries, but on containing and countering and increasingly aggresive China.
Armed Services – My experience as a Marine Corps veteran gives me great insight into the problems facing our military

Ways and Means – I want to reduce government spending and work to reform our social safety net.

Transportation – I want to fight the high speed rail project proposed for this congressional district.

Campaign website

Wood’s campaign website stated the following:

Limited Government
Most governing in America should happen at the state and local level. The federal government tries to do too much, and as a result it does a lot of things poorly. While I support a social safety net that protects those who cannot work or find themselves in a rough patch temporarily, I believe that public policy should encourage work for those who can.

Pro-Life
I want to live in a country where every life is protected and treasured. I will fight to extend legal protection to the most vulnerable among us, the unborn. I support the fetal heartbeat bills being proposed in Texas and other states.

Second Amendment
Every man and woman has an inherent right to defend themselves and their families. The 2nd Amendment protects an individual's right to bear arms -- not just militias. Gun control policies usually target law-abiding citizens and leave them defenseless against criminals who do not follow the laws.

Religious Liberty
The freedom to worship and follow God is the cornerstone of our free country. Churches need to open. Nuns should not be forced to buy birth control. Bakers shouldn't be forced to bake cakes. While there is no religious test for public office in America, its citizens should be free to exercise their faith.

Pro-Oil
If you drive a car, use plastic, heat your home, or eat food not grown in your backyard you can thank the American oil and gas industry. We need more oil and natural gas wells, not fewer. I am a firm supporter of Texas’s greatest industry, and I will oppose any efforts to destroy, demonize, or overregulate it. We need the jobs and the energy it provides. America is now an energy superpower and we should start acting like it. President Biden was wrong to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline, and by doing so, he likely killed many jobs for American workers.

National Defense
The most important job of the government is to protect the safety of the people and the homeland. We need a national defense policy focused on countering and containing China. ISIS and its fellow travelers must be destroyed, but we have lost the best of our generation trying to nation-build and democratize the Middle East. We need a Pacific-focused defense posture that deters war but will win wars if needed. [2]
