Publications and media

The Good Karma Divorce

Lowrance is the author of The Good Karma Divorce (2011), a book that offers strategies for overcoming the emotional backlash of divorce.[4] She has also taught seminars on the subject and made television appearances on Good Morning America, CBS's The Early Show, Chicagoing, Extra, The View and A&E's American Justice.[5] According to the book's website,

The Good Karma Divorce offers techniques to maintain energy, to manage fears and emotions, and to learn that anyone can develop the wisdom and ability to handle this terrifying process. These techniques, honed in the laboratory of Judge Lowrance’s courtroom, are proven. Since her implementation of Good Karma Divorce principles in her court three years ago, not a single divorce on her docket has gone to trial for either financial or child custody resolution.[4][6]

In an interview with DoOver.com, Lowrance said of the book,

[T]o write a book and to be a judge could very easily be viewed as an ivory tower approach—that I’d be sitting on the bench and I’d have the protection of the robe, and I would be talking about things that I hadn’t experienced. It was very important for me to let readers or people I talk to know that this is not textbook stuff. All of this stuff comes from the heart; it’s experientially based.[7][6]

"Chained to my Ex"

Lowrance is also featured in "Chained to my Ex" (2012), an MSNBC documentary series exploring the growing trend of divorced couples that continue to cohabitate. The show, created with the help of Matt Ritter (maker of the docu-series "Intervention") shares the stories of some of these couples while Lowrance acts as a mediator.[8] According to the show's website,

What each of these couples has in common is a desire to move on, but an inability to work out exactly how to make that happen. With the help of an introduction from MSNBC, Judge Lowrance meets with each couple to come up with a comprehensive plan to separate and start over.[8][6]
