One of the eight seats on the Orange County Public Schools school board was up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. Incumbent Christine Moore filed for re-election and faced three newcomers in primary election for the District 7 seat on August 30, 2016: Isadora Dean, Matthew Fitzpatrick, and Laura Rounds. None of the candidates won more than 50 percent of the vote, so the top two vote-getters—Moore and Fitzpatrick—advanced to the general. Moore won another term on the board in the general election. Two other seats also appeared on the primary ballot. District 4 incumbent Pam Gould filed for re-election and defeated newcomer Michele Wilmot, and District 5 incumbent Kathleen Gordon also filed for re-election and was victorious over newcomer Mike Scott. The seat of District 6 incumbent Nancy Robbinson was originally set to be on the primary ballot, but when the county's filing deadline passed and no challengers filed, the election for her seat was canceled and she was automatically re-elected.[1][2]
